Why do we need to save the dark?

  • Light pollution alters animal behavior and changes the relationship among species.

  • It threatens human health in ways we’re just beginning to understand.

Our goals are simple:

  • Help raise awareness about light pollution.

  • Appreciate the beauty and importance of our planet's nighttime environments.

We can retain the light humans need while making simple changes to help save the dark from harmful and unnecessary light.

You can help minimize light pollution! It’s as easy as:

  • Use outside lighting only when and where it’s needed.

  • Use motion sensor lights and/or timers.

  • Keep curtains and blinds closed at night so inside light doesn’t get out.

  • Help spread the word in a nice and polite way. =)

Adjusting even one light fixture can make a huge difference—and the more people who adjust even one fixture the better. We’re seeing an exponential increase in light pollution—but you can be part of the movement to slow that trend!
